Drowning the Light's The Serpents Reign is a 2008 album of raw, atmospheric and melancholic Australian black metal. Its imagery draws on whispering forests, winter rain, forgotten fields and spectral landscapes.
Longer, immersive songs are punctuated by brief transitional passages, giving the album a compact and deliberate flow. Cold nostalgia and desolation remain at the heart of the record from its opening mark to the final ghosts of the south.
